What is IGCSE

IGCSE stands for International General Certificate of Secondary Education. It is an English language based examination recognised by learning institutes all over the world. IGCSE is a great foundation for further study, including Cambridge International AS & A Level, Cambridge Pre-U, the International Baccalaureate Diploma. Students with an IGCSE qualification can look forward to pursuing post-secondary education in Singapore or internationally.

IGCSE Year 9 & Year 10

Subject streaming is offered by SSTC in Year 9 and Year 10. Subjects offered in each stream are:

  • STC will pre-select the three Electives for Year 9.
  • After CA1 examination, student in Year 10 will be allowed to select at least two elective subjects among the three elective subjects they have completed in Year 9.
  • Students can only take a maximum of 3 elective subjects in Year 10.

Character & Life Skills Education will be taught at all levels.

IGCSE Curriculum

IGCSE Programme Duration

12 months for each Year/Level (inclusive of holidays and term breaks)

Mondays to Fridays, 8:45 am – 3:40 pm, with breaks (excluding Co-Curricular Activities, which will be conducted weekly for a minimum of 1.5 hours per session)

IGCSE Programme Structure

There are three terms in one Academic Year.

  • Term 1: September – December
  • Term 2: January – March
  • Term 3: April – June

IGCSE Exam / Assessment

Term Assessments conducted for Terms 1 and 2 and a Final Year Assessment is conducted at the end of the Academic Year by Pearson Edexcel.

IGCSE Entry Requirements

  • For Year 7:
    Recommended age is 12 years old as of 31st December of the Academic Year that the student is enrolling into. Passed English at Year 6 and completed Year 6 or its equivalent in their respective countries. International students whose first language is not English may also be required to pass SSTC International Academy’s English Language Proficiency Test.
  • For Year 8:
    Recommended age is 13 years old as of 31st December of the Academic Year that the student is enrolling into. Passed English at Year 7 and completed Year 7 or its equivalent in their respective countries. International students whose first language is not English may also be required to pass SSTC International Academy’s English Language Proficiency Test.
  • For Year 9:
    Recommended age is 14 years old as of 31st December of the Academic Year that the student is enrolling into. Passed English at Year 8 and completed Year 8 or its equivalent in their respective countries. International students whose first language is not English may also be required to pass SSTC International Academy’s English Language Proficiency Test.
  • For Year 10:
    Recommended age is 15 years old as of 31st December of the Academic Year that the student is enrolling into. Passed English at Year 9 and completed Year 9 or its equivalent in their respective countries. International students whose first language is not English may also be required to pass SSTC International Academy’s English Language Proficiency Test.

After applying, students may be required to take an Academic Diagnostic Test covering English and Mathematics subjects to determine their suitability for the level they intend to enrol into. Students will be advised to the appropriate level depending on the score achieved.
