SGUS Specialist Diploma in Applied Drama and Psychology in Youth Work

In this programme, trainees will learn about the social service sector in Singapore, who the key providers are and how different community groups are supported by the various organisations. This will help them to understand the scope and reach of different organisations and how they all function in the social service ecosystem. Trainees will also benefit from studying basic psychology as this will help them to recognise trends and patterns of behaviours across the lifespan. This is helpful especially since the trainees are expecting to engage with different communities after completing this course. Research is a key component in this course and a good understanding of research skills will help trainees to design simple research projects and evaluate programmes for their effectiveness. The last pillar in this programme equips trainees to be able to engage communities effectively. They will learn basic counselling skills that will help them to more effective conversations with others and applied drama skills which will help them to design interesting activities for communities. There will be a combination of online learning, face-to-face tutorials, practical sessions, and sharing sessions and/or hands-on workshops conducted by professionals from the industry. At the end of the 12-month course, trainees will work on a project for the industry or embark on a short practicum
